WPJA & AG|WPJA Awards Compilation
Every year the WPJA and AG|WPJA host wedding photography competitions that are judged by world renown photojournalists. Thousands of images are submitted to various categories by photographers from all over the world. After the judging process, the top 20 images in each category are awarded. It’s a tough contest with the bar set high and some amazingly talented photographers submitting. So it’s an honour and inspiration to be among the award winners.
What is the WPJA?
For those of you who don’t know, The Wedding Photojournalist Association is an international membership-based organisation representing the world’s best photographers who shoot weddings with an artistic, documentary approach. Find out more by clicking the links below.

WPJA Q4 2016
Judges Comment: “Itʼs hard to ignore a sleeping relative especially when thereʼs another one pointing him out. Not to mention the folks behind him who seem as if theyʼre trying hard not to snicker. What makes it humorous is how beautifully sincere all these shenanigans are. It is often said that “truth is stranger than fiction,” to which one might add, and funnier too.”

Five Awards – AG|WPJA Q3 2016
I’ve been a member of AG|WPJA since 2010 but didn’t submit to the contests very often. So it means a lot when we do submit and end up getting an award for our images. Imagine our excitement when we received an email of the 3rd quarter contest results last Saturday, to learn that 5 of our images had placed in the top 20 of the quarterly AG|WPJA Awards!!
We’re really chuffed with the result because 4 out of the 5 images are from one wedding. And 3 of those had already been awarded in the WPPI competition earlier this year. We’re really proud and can’t thank our couples enough for trusting our vision and allowing us the freedom to create images in our own unique way.
Here are the winning images along with some judges comments where applicable.
Judges Comment: “Very creative image with strong compelling color and design. The use of the Bokeh as a means of framing.”
Judges Comment: “The act of getting ready is hinted at in the three different “windows” seen through the cloth. The colors, the crispness of what is happening in the background and the framing – beautiful.”
Judges Comment: “This captures an engaging and oddly surrealistic setting.”
Judges Comment: “I like that the photographer chose to step back and show the cake graphically accented by the light and pattern on the floor. Well done.”
Judges Comment: “This image stood apart because of dramatic and over-the-top lighting.”

WPJA Award – Q4 2014
There are two main reasons why we’re really pleased this image placed in the WPJA Q4 contest.
First, it sums up our bride Sita’s sense of humour and personality. She could be the female version of Jim Carey with the numerous faces she makes. After a long day, this was the first time she had something to eat. And judging from her expression, it’s clear she was enjoying it.
The second reason we’re happy about this award is that it was Sita’s older sister Rani, also one of our brides from 2013, that kept encouraging us to submit our images to competitions more often. Unfortunately, WPJA only accepts submissions of weddings shot during the same year of the contest, so we couldn’t submit anything from Rani’s wedding. And since it was the last contest of 2014 we didn’t want to miss the chance to submit something from Sita’s too. So this one’s for Rani. Thank you for pushing us.
