Seascape Portraits

Seascape Portraits.

Here’s something different for your viewing pleasure…I’ve been waiting to do some Seascape Portraits since beginning of 2011 but never had a couple who were brave enough to take part. Until now that is.

We’ve seen plenty of beach shots and composite images by wedding photographers, but haven’t yet come across this kind of image so thought we’d try it.

I’ve always been impressed by all the seascape images I see and always try to shoot them in my very limited spare time. But as I’m a wedding photographer and shoot a lot of couples, I wanted to merge the two together.

These shots are the first of a series of seascape portraits we will be producing throughout the year.. and when couples want to do this of course..:-)

And yes, they are composites. For those who don’t know what that means, it’s two shots merged into one. The couple and the sea were shot separately using two different techniques and then merged into one image using Photoshop.

A huge thanks to our couples who braved the freezing temperatures and dangerous rocks while the tide was coming in fast.

And bless my wife for being dedicated enough to carry on even though slipped on the rocks and hurt herself on one of the shoots. Luckily she wasn’t injured badly although she did fall ill later that night. Huge thanks to Jasmeen & Arul for their help and support with looking after Shuhenaz that day.:-)

Keep an eye out for more images of this theme. I’ll be adding them periodically with the most recent image first. And also watch out for the full set of images from each couples shoots.

Amazing pictures, the effect of the see, makes me fell a mix between something scary and emotional at the same time. Its what marriage represents for me.

Hey guys, wow. what can I say, all the hard work really paid off especially on that very cold and in freezing condition you guys made it look so amazing. It was great working with you Jay as your passion for art and drive for perfection really pulled off an absolute gem and we are so happy we were part of it, am sure one of many to come as we are a great team, lol.

My first thought when I saw these shoot was – wow, that’s exactly what I wanted to do last year. Well, maybe not the same pictures but the same idea. Unfortunatelly I had no time to do it but I must say that you have done a really great job! Pictures are fantastic! I can’t wait to see more from that session!

Michelle7 March, 2012 - 07:01

Kudos to your wife! Kidding. Nice idea, it really is a difficult shot to take, but equally rewarding, I guess?:)

Jay24 March, 2012 - 22:56

Thank you for the wonderful comments everyone.. really appreciate it.. :-)

@ Mabs, it was an absolute pleasure working with you and Ewa. We couldn’t have done it without your support.. you guys just got into it without complaint. But best of all, you were equally as passionate as we were.. Not many couples would be brave enough or patient enough to put up with the conditions you did.. so thank you both for being such good sports.. I think we’ll do another shoot with you both, this time in the summer.. don’t want our dear Ewa freezing to death.. :D

Mabs, thank YOU for choosing us and we’re proud that we made you guys as happy as we are to have been involved. As I said on your Facebook wall, it was an absolute honour to have been part of Atiq & Shanaz’s reception yesterday. You guys put on a great show and it was definitely the best Bengali Muslim event we’ve been to.. it was hilarious and great fun.. :-)

Really admired the close bond between your families, especially between you and your siblings.. We were even treated as if we were family.. this is why we love what we do.. Can’t wait to go through the images..

Please give our love to all your sisters and extended family..

We look forward to seeing you guys again. Lets do dinner sometime soon.

In a nutshell- WOW! These are well thought out and perfectly executed shots!!
I can’t help but imagine your couples having this framed in their homes and looking back at these images in 30 or 40 years from now and be thankful for your vision. Simply awesome.

If the man who paints only the sky, or sea, or other surface he sees before him were an artist, the king of artists would be the photographer. It is for the artist to do something beyond this.
